Their Challenge

Northern Education Trust required a coordinated programme of safeguarding and security upgrades across its academies to strengthen compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and prepare for the forthcoming Protect Duty under Martyn’s Law. At North Shore Academy in particular, the Trust needed to formalise perimeter boundaries, tighten access control, and introduce monitored entry systems that would support both day-to-day safeguarding and emergency response procedures — without disrupting the operational school environment.

Our Solution

Applebridge Building Services designed and delivered a robust, integrated perimeter security solution centred on controlled access and real-time monitoring. Working within live school conditions, our team phased the installation to maintain safe pupil movement and minimise disruption to teaching hours. The solution combined high-specification fencing, automated gate systems, and Paxton access control integration to provide a secure yet practical environment aligned with KCSIE expectations and Martyn’s Law principles.

Scope of Works

• Installation of 500m of 1800mm green mesh perimeter fencing
• Provision of 4 cantilever vehicle gates for controlled site access
• Installation of 4 automated pedestrian gates with secure maglocks
• Full integration with Paxton access control system for live monitoring
• Phased delivery within a live educational setting

The Results

North Shore Academy now benefits from a clearly defined, secure perimeter with controlled entry points and monitored access across the site. The upgrade significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access, strengthens visitor management procedures, and enhances emergency response capability. The Trust has improved compliance positioning under KCSIE while proactively aligning with Martyn’s Law, delivering a safer, more resilient learning environment for pupils and staff.
