Their Challenge
Mount Pellon Primary Academy required its Early Years outdoor space to be upgraded to better support curriculum delivery and day-to-day learning. The existing area had become worn and no longer provided the level of safety, accessibility or functionality expected for EYFS provision. The academy sought an environment that could accommodate a range of learning, play and sensory activities while being delivered within a live school setting, with robust safeguarding and minimal disruption.
Our Solution
Applebridge Building Services was appointed as Principal Contractor to manage the project from planning through to completion. We developed a coordinated delivery programme covering enabling works, logistics and safeguarding arrangements, and worked closely with Pentagon Play to ensure ground conditions, foundations and drainage were prepared to meet the requirements of the specialist installations. Our team managed sequencing and site controls to allow works to progress efficiently while maintaining a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
Scope of Works
- Principal Contractor duties and CDM compliance
- Removal of existing tarmac and preparation of new sub-bases
- Drainage installation and modifications
- Foundations and structural preparation for 9m x 4.5m wall plated canopy
- Ground modelling and levelling for new surfacing systems
- Hard landscaping and formation of pathways
- Site fencing, welfare facilities and safeguarding-led access control
The Results
The project has delivered a well-organised and practical Early Years outdoor environment that supports physical development, creative play and sensory learning. The works were completed safely, to programme and with limited impact on school operations. The new infrastructure and surfaces provide a durable foundation for long-term use and allow the academy to deliver outdoor learning with greater flexibility and confidence.
