Manor Community Academy Demolition Works, Hartlepool
Compliant demolition of a redundant school swimming pool to remove risk, reduce liabilities and support long-term estate planning.
Compliant demolition of a redundant school swimming pool to remove risk, reduce liabilities and support long-term estate planning.
Northern Education Trust required the removal of a redundant swimming pool building at Manor Community Academy that had reached the end of its serviceable life. The structure presented ongoing compliance risks, maintenance liabilities and health and safety concerns, particularly in relation to the presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). The Trust needed a competent Principal Contractor capable of delivering a fully compliant, tightly managed demolition solution within an operational school environment, while safeguarding pupils, staff and day-to-day activities.
Applebridge Building Services (ABS) provided a condition-led, compliance-focused demolition strategy, developed in line with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and CDM Regulations 2015. We undertook detailed pre-demolition surveys, coordinated licensed asbestos removal, and implemented robust site controls to ensure safe segregation from occupied areas of the academy. A planned sequence of soft strip, mechanical demolition and ground reinstatement allowed the works to be completed efficiently, with full traceability of waste streams and clear assurance reporting to the Trust.
The redundant pool facility was removed safely and in full compliance with UK legislation, eliminating a significant risk from the academy estate. The works reduced long-term maintenance exposure, improved site safety and supported the Trust’s wider estate rationalisation strategy, all achieved with minimal disruption to the school’s operations.
