Their Challenge

The Brotton development had been left incomplete and structurally compromised after works by a previous developer fell short of the required standards. Funded by Homes England, Home Group needed a specialist contractor capable of rectifying systemic construction issues while preserving the existing building shell.

The priority was to restore structural integrity, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver high-quality internal and external finishes. The project required careful intervention to correct defective installations, upgrade building elements, and complete the development to a standard suitable for long-term residential use.

Our Solution

Applebridge Building Services undertook a comprehensive programme of investigative works, strip-out, and reconstruction to resolve the underlying issues while retaining the external structure. The team carefully removed defective internal installations and rebuilt key structural and service elements throughout the development.

One of the most complex challenges involved the first-floor steel framework, which had been incorrectly installed and had sagged, creating a 40mm gap between the framework and the external wall. Our team designed and installed additional supports and packing to correct the alignment, stabilise the structure, and eliminate the gap. Firebreaks were also installed and the framework sealed to bring the structure fully in line with current building regulations.

The Results

Delivered within just 24 weeks, the revitalised Brotton development was successfully restored to a high standard, providing safe, compliant and modern accommodation.
