Their Challenge

Abbey Park Academy required a safeguarding-led upgrade to address risks associated with an open student drop-off area and uncontrolled pedestrian and vehicular access. The academy needed a solution that would strengthen compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance while aligning with the emerging requirements of Martyn’s Law (Protect Duty), particularly around perimeter security, controlled entry, and site management during peak periods.

Our Solution

Applebridge Building Services developed a tailored access control and perimeter security solution focused on improving boundary definition, regulating movement, and supporting safer daily operations. The design prioritised robustness, reliability, and ease of use for staff, while maintaining a welcoming school environment. All works were coordinated to minimise disruption to the academy’s operations and were delivered in line with current safeguarding best practice.

Scope of Works

• Installation of 1800mm green mesh perimeter fencing
• Provision of automated pedestrian access gate for controlled entry
• Installation of cantilever vehicle gate to regulate car park access and traffic flow
• Associated groundworks, power supplies, and commissioning

The Results

The upgraded perimeter and access arrangements have significantly improved the academy’s ability to manage student entry and vehicle movements, reducing safeguarding risks during busy start and finish times. Clear boundary definition and controlled access now support compliance with KCSIE requirements and enhance preparedness for Martyn’s Law. The academy benefits from a more secure, manageable, and resilient site, providing greater confidence for staff, pupils, and parents.
