Compliant demolition of a redundant swimming pool at Dyke House Academy, removing risk and unlocking future use of the site.
Northern Education Trust required the safe removal of a long-disused swimming pool building at Dyke House Academy that posed compliance, safety and maintenance risks. The Trust needed a principal contractor capable of managing asbestos risk, legislative compliance and demolition activities within a live educational environment, while protecting pupils, staff and neighbouring facilities and providing assurance through robust documentation and governance.
Applebridge Building Services (ABS) delivered a condition-led, fully compliant demolition solution aligned with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and CDM 2015. A sequenced approach was adopted, beginning with intrusive asbestos surveys and licensed removal of identified ACMs, followed by controlled soft strip and mechanical demolition. Clear segregation, air monitoring, independent clearance testing and auditable waste tracking ensured statutory compliance and transparent reporting for the Trust. All works were planned to minimise disruption to academy operations and maintain site security at all times.
The redundant pool building was safely removed, eliminating a high-risk asset and ongoing liability. The site was returned in a clean, stable and compliant condition, enabling Northern Education Trust to repurpose the area for future educational or community use. The project demonstrated ABS’s capability to manage complex, compliance-critical demolition works within live school environments.
