THEIR CHALLENGE:
Pentagon Play was appointed to deliver a new Multi-Use Games Area at Teesville Academy. While experienced in sports equipment, they required a trusted groundworks partner to ensure the MUGA was built on a robust, long-lasting foundation, delivered safely and within a tight programme.
OUR SOLUTION
Applebridge Building Services provided specialist groundworks expertise, drawing on previous successful collaborations with Pentagon Play. Early in the works, our team identified a critical design omission relating to excavation depth and sub-base build-up. By proactively increasing excavation by 210mm to accommodate a geotextile membrane and additional stone layer, we eliminated the risk of future settlement and avoided costly remedial works.
We also took responsibility for coordinating the installation of a 3m-high steel boundary fence and access gate when design challenges emerged, ensuring safety compliance and seamless delivery.
SCOPE OF WORKS
Applebridge Building Services was appointed to complete the following packages of works:
- Site clearance and excavation
- Installation of geotextile membrane
- Type 1 MOT stone sub-base
- Concrete haunched edgings
- Tarmac binder and surface courses
- 4G artificial grass surface and sports features
- 3m steel fencing and access gate
- 40m tarmac access pathway
THE RESULTS
Completed in just 16 days, the project delivered a high-quality, all-weather sports facility that enhances physical education provision and requires minimal long-term maintenance.
