THEIR CHALLENGE:

Northern Education Trust wanted to revitalise the external learning and play facilities at Badger Hill Academy. The existing playgrounds for Key Stage 1 and Early Years had become tired and unfit for purpose. The Academy required two modernised play areas with safe surfacing, improved accessibility, and additional covered space to enhance the children’s learning environment. The works needed to be delivered to a high standard and within a tight six-week programme, with some activities carried out while the school remained live.

OUR SOLUTION

Applebridge Building Services delivered a full transformation of both playgrounds by stripping back the existing areas to create a blank canvas for redevelopment. Our team carried out the enabling works, groundworks, and retaining structures before managing the specialist installation of play equipment in collaboration with Pentagon Play. The project was carefully phased to ensure health and safety within the live school environment, maintaining safe access routes for staff and pupils. By providing a robust construction foundation, new fencing, and improved surfacing, we created a secure and engaging space ready to support the installation of high-quality play features.

SCOPE OF WORKS

Applebridge Building Services was appointed to complete the following packages of works:

• Soft strip and demolition of existing equipment
• Groundworks including stoning up, kerbing, and tarmac surfacing
• Construction of a GeoWall retaining wall to Area 2
• Installation of new V-mesh and picket fencing
• Provision of new under-cloaking to Area 1
• Managing specialist playground installation by Pentagon Play
